![]() There's only a few key "Larian-isms" that the games share-like proclivity for surfaces, stealth mechanics, how AoEs are measured, high ground advantages (a thing 5e should probably have anyway.), etc.-that leave the rest of both games to be quite different from one another.Ī lot of DoS2 mechanics are more free from, allowing you mix and match because your stats just increase the values of other actions or states. I started with DoS2 and I love DnD (and Pathfinder 1e/2e besides) and I absolutely adore both games to death. But it sucks that the use of this external system messes with the game in this “we don’t need to tell you stuff that you definitely need to know” way. I bet a second play through will be amazing. Sometimes frustrating but I bet long term it’ll be fine. And BG3 never really explained concentration or savings throws or a million other things that people who have played DnD would know. In BG3 I’ve happened to read enough random DnD bullshit to have vaguely known what I needed going in, but I still couldn’t tell my GF the difference between her spell slots and channel divinity and the mage’s arcane rest thing at the start. I know what to expect from leveling up and what I can do with that. Divinity level ups feel more natural to me. A level up usually is just unlocking class features. You ALWAYS have a five percent chance of shitting the bed. Oh you’re a rogue with a lock pick and a locked door in front of you? You’ve unlocked doors like this all your life? DC is ten and you have 11 points of bonuses so this should be guaranteed? Fuck you, rolling a natural one is still a failure. BG3 seems to take itself very seriously whereas I feel there was a lot more “fun” in Divinity. The two games have a massively different tone.
